It is certain that most people wish to live a long life and feel healthy as they grow older each day. Living healthy means we have to take into consideration of daily choices which affect our health in positive ways. According to statistics, people are generally living longer lives nowadays. One factual factor of this longevity is older people are taking care of themselves better than ever before. 


However, there raise much argument and conflicting ideas on what allow them to live a long and healthy life. It is evident that many people reach to an extraordinary age but still keep on smoking, drinking alcohol, contraindicated behaviors, and other bad habits to their health. Apparently, the world’s oldest people make up an interesting and ever-growing lot.

Maria Esther Heredia de Capovilla, 116 years 347 days, was born in Ecuador and documented as the oldest person experiencing three centuries.

Sarah Knauss was 119 years 97 days. She was born in a small coal-mining town and spent her whole life in Pennsylvania. She was interested in eating chocolate turtles, potato chips and watching televised golf.

Kamato Hongo, a Japanese supercentenarian, was 116 years 45 days. She was born on the small island of Tokunoshima and then lived with her daughter in Kagoshima. She became well-known and was a focus of some merchandise including key-rings, phone cards, and even wash-cloths.

Carrie C. White was 116 years 88 days. She made the Guinness world records as the oldest person in the 1988s. She was in a nursing home due to a nervous breakdown in 1909.

Marie-Louise Meilleur, 117 years 230 days, was the oldest ever Canadian and was said to be a vegetarian. At the time of her death, her son was in a nursing home and her daughter was at 90.
